Joanna Manring, soprano

Originally from the Finger Lakes region in Central New York, Ms. Manring comes from a rich heritage of pianists, violin-makers, conductors and singers. Described as a "stylish, vibrant" singer by David Gordon of the Carmel Bach Festival, Ms. Manring appeared this August at the Skaneateles Chamber Music Festival as soprano soloist for Bach's Cantata 51, Jauchzet Gott in allen Landen. The Syracuse Post Standard recounted: "her expressive singing opened up a sense of tenderness...that reached to the farthest seats on the grounds." She has performed roles with Syracuse Opera, Oswego Opera, Merry-Go-Round Playhouse, and appeared as a soloist with Boston's Winsor Music, the Master Chorale of Washington, and the New York Chorale at Weill Recital Hall. Ms. Manring's recent performances include the role of "Kate" in Pirates of Penzance with CRS Barn Studio in Ithaca, NY, and "Eve" in Henry Mollicone's Hotel Eden with the Peabody Chamber Opera.

Ms. Manring was a Finalist in the 2009 Washington DC Vocal Arts Society's Art Song Discovery Auditions and was the recipient of several performance awards from Syracuse University, where she completed her Masters degree. Currently, she is finishing her doctoral degree in voice performance at Peabody Conservatory. Her teachers include American sopranos Phyllis Bryn-Julson, Helen Boatwright, Janet Brown, and coaches Kathleen and Marcus Haddock.

Ms. Manring served as Director of Vocal Studies at Le Moyne College in Syracuse, NY from 2006-2008 where she inaugurated the "Le Moyne Christmas Revels." She currently teaches voice at the Community School of Musical Arts in Ithaca, NY and directs the "Jane Austen Singing School for Young Ladies" in Skaneateles, NY.
