Joanna Manring, soprano
A versatile solo and collaborative performer, Ms. Manring enjoys
singing music from the Baroque to the Contemporary, both on the stage
and in the concert hall. She has made solo appearances with Syracuse
Opera, Oswego Opera, Boston's Winsor Music, The Skaneateles Festival,
Merry-Go-Round Playhouse, and the New York Chorale at Weill Recital
Hall. She has been engaged by Music Journeys', Civic Morning Musicals,
and Peabody Conservatory's Thursday Noon concert series and maintains
an active recital schedule. An avid chamber musician and supporter
of new music, Ms. Manring has premiered works by Josh Daniel Coles,
Pomice Stolzfus, and Faye Chiao.
Ms. Manring is currently pursuing a performance degree in the Doctor
of Musical Arts program at Peabody Conservatory where she studies
with 20th-century music luminary Phyllis Bryn-Julson. Recent performances
at Peabody include the role of "Celidora" in scenes from
Mozart’s unfinished opera L’Oca del Cairo, "Rori"
in Work in Progress, a new opera written for the innovative
Opera Études program, and "Eve" in Henry
Mollicone’s Hotel Eden with Peabody Chamber Opera.
Ms. Manring has also appeared as "Lucy" in The Telephone,
"Susanna" in scenes from Le Nozze di Figaro, "Arabella"
and "Donna Anna" in opera scenes performances at Syracuse
University.
Originally from the Finger Lakes region in Central New York, Ms.
Manring grew up immersed in the music of the Skaneateles Chamber Music
Festival, which her grandparents helped to found in 1980. She comes
from a rich heritage of pianists, violin-makers, conductors and singers.
Her early interest in singing led her to her first voice lessons with
American soprano Helen Boatwright. Her other teachers include Pamela
Kurau, Dan Marek and Janet Brown.
Ms. Manring currently directs the vocal program at Le Moyne College
in Syracuse, NY.
